Markets Today

It was a fantastic close for the market near the highest point of the day after brushing off the 50 bps CRR hike to 7%. The markets dipped immediately after the monetary policy declared but having realised that the CRR hike is more of a liquidity management tool than any interst rate signal to the market. The discount has narrowed to just about 20 points.
Heavies like L&T, HDFC, BHEL and ABB contributed significantly to the rally. L&T was up 7% HDFC was up 6% and BHEL was up 5.6%.
Broader markets also participated giving markets an excellent breadth.
All the BSE sector indices closed in green. Capital goods index was the top gainer followed by metal, FMCG and realty
stocks.
The RBI has increased the CRR by 50 bps to 7% from 6.5%. Reverse Repo cap was removed. Bond yields have moved up. CRR is the amount the
commercial banks need to maintain with the RBI. The amount is based on a fixed percentage computed on each bank's total time and demand liabilities. A CRR of 7% means that the banks need to set aside Rs 7 for every Rs 100 they receive in deposits.
Sensex was up 290.08 points or 1.90% at 15550.99, and the Nifty up 88.80 points or 2.00% at 4528.85.
About 1835 shares have advanced, 1065 shares declined, and 83 shares are unchanged.
The BSE Midcap Index ended at 6,718.08 up 99 points or 1.5%.
The BSE Smallcap Index ended at 8,070.63 up 129 points or 1.6%.
The BSE Health Care Index was up 1% at 3,718.26. Biocon, Orchid Chemical, Lupin, Ranbaxy Labs, Matrix Lab, Nicholas Pirama closed higher.
The BSE Auto Index closed at 4,933.83 up 0.2%. Cummins, Exide Industrie, Escorts, Bajaj Auto surged.
The BSE IT Index gained 0.4% at 4,862.52. Mphasis, HCL Tech, TCS, Patni Computer advanced.
BSE
Oil and Gas Index gained 2% to close at 8,130.50. BPCL, Reliance Natura, Reliance, IOC, Reliance Petro, ONGC closed in green.
The BSE FMCG Index gained 1.4% at 1,973.16. Colgate, United Spirits, United Brewerie, ITC, Britannia were among the gainers.
The BSE Metal Index gained 2.2% to close at 11,630.92. Sterlite Ind, Hind Zinc, Jindal Steel, Shree Precoated, SAIL closed in green.
The BSE Bankex was up 1.2% at 8,148.68. HDFC Bank, SBI, Kotak Mahindra, Bank of Baroda, PNB ended higher.

Markets Today

The markets ended the day on a flat note amid volatality after seeing a rally of over 200 points in the noon trade. Turnover was low and the breadth was in the favour of declines. Banking and FMCG stock ended higher. However, realty, metal and IT stocks ended in green.
Top gainers on the Sensex were HUL, SBI and Ambuja Cements.
Top losers on the Sensex were Hindalco, ITC and Mah and Mah.
Reliance Energy surged after winning the bid for Sasan Ultra Mega Power Project.
The rupee was
trading at 40.51, the dollar has not been able to maintain its strength.
SBI gained after delivering strong Q1 operational performance on Saturday and HUL was up on the buyback news.
Sensex was up 26.34 points or 0.17% at 15260.91, and the Nifty down 5.15 points or 0.12% at 4440.05.
About 1488 shares have advanced, 1415 shares declined, and 78 shares are unchanged.
The BSE Midcap Index ended at 6,618.99 up 21 points or 0.3%.
The BSE Smallcap Index ended at 7,941.75 up 15 points or 0.2%.
The BSE Bankex was up 1.7% at 8,055.14. Federal Bank, SBI, UTI Bank, Andhra Bank, IOB moved upwards.
The BSE Capital Goods Index was down 0.4% at 12,698.97. Suzlon Energy, Crompton Greave, Siemens, Praj Industries, Kalpataru Power, BHEL closed lower.

Markets Today

The markets closed in deep red tracking global peers. It was third biiggest single day fall for Sensex in absolute terms. Sell off was seen in markets across the globe. European markets outperformed other markets. The fall was initiated by US markets due to months of worry about the mortgage and corporate lending markets.
Asian markets ended gloomy. Taiwan was the top loser closing with a loss of 4%.
The market breadth was extremely weak on brisk turnover. Midcaps were not spared either and saw a huge sell off.
Real Estate, metal, cap goods, media were the worst hit. Sugar stocks did good for themselves. BSE Metal and realty index is down over 4%, followed by banking and capital goods index down over 3%
Nifty Futures widened to 50 points.
The fall was initiated by cracks in US markets. Dow plunged 311.50 points, or 2.26 percent, to 13,473.57, after falling 449.77 in earlier trading. The close was its worst since the 416.02 points it lost on Feb. 27.
The plunge was seen in US on concerns that higher corporate borrowing costs would curb the rapid pace of takeovers that had driven stocks higher this year. Investors also feared the sluggish environment for home sales and continued defaults in subprime loans would spur debt defaults and weigh on corporate earnings.
Sensex closed down 541.74 points or 3.4% at 15,234.57 and Nifty closed down 174 points at 4445.
The BSE Midcap Index ended at 6,598.32 down 192 points or 2.8%.
The BSE Smallcap Index ended at 7,926.45 down 219 points or 2.7%.
The BSE Bankex was down 3.2% at 7,920.19. Canara Bank, Bank of Baroda, Oriental Bank, PNB, HDFC Bank moved downwards.
The BSE Capital Goods Index was down 3.8% at 12,748.77. Alstom Projects, Gammon India, Astra Microwave, Jyoti Structure, BHEL, Reliance Infra closed lower.
The BSE Health Care Index was down 2.6% at 3,691.36. Sterling Bio, Matrix Lab, Lupin, GlaxoSmithKline, Wockhardt closed lower.
The BSE Auto Index closed at 4,943.50 down 3%. Ashok Leyland, Escorts, Tata Motors, Hind Motors, Hero Honda, Tube Investment closed higher.
The BSE Metal Index closed at 11,501.52 down 5.3%. Tata Steel, Shree Precoated, Hind Zinc, Hindalco, SAIL closed lower.
The BSE FMCG Index closed at 1,927.86 down 0.1%. United Brewerie, Dabur India, HUL, United Spirits, Bata India closed higher
BSE Oil and Gas Index closed at 8,015.75 down 3.7%. ONGC, Reliance Natura, Petronet LNG, Reliance, HPCL ended in red.
The BSE IT Index lost 2.5% at 4,876.34. Mphasis, Patni Computer, Financial Tech, HCL Tech, Satyam, Wipro closed lower.
The NSE cash turnover was at Rs 15450.73 crore and the NSE F&O turnover was at Rs 65777.96 crore. The BSE cash turnover was Rs 6596.79 crore. Total market wide turnover was at Rs 87825.48 crore.

The markets spiked in the late trade after witnessing sluggish trade for most of the day on triple witching day. The turnover was at record high of 1 lakh crore.

Markets Today

The markets ended in the red amid a highly volatile session. Rest of the Asia also ended with a deep cut. The breadth was in favour of the declines. Selling was seen in cement realty, capital good, auto and metal stocks. FMCG index managed to hold up in green.
Rupee has weakened little bit against and was quoting at Rs 40.31 versus USD. Market breadth was roughly 4:1 in favour of declining stocks on BSE.
Cement stocks are among the top losers on MRTPC probes in cement companies on any cartelisation issues.
ITC was up over 8% at Rs 164.80; CLSA has upped its ITC price target to Rs 184; upgrades to buy from underperform.
ITC, Infosys, HUL, ONGC, Bharti Airtel, NTPC, Reliance Energy and SBI are among the top gainers on the indices.
Ambuja Cements, Satyam, ACC, Grasim, HDFC Bank, Bajaj Auto are among the top losers.
On the results front Indus Fila came out with good set of numbers its net profit was up at Rs 8.2 crore versus Rs 3.6 crore in the corresponding quarter previous year. The stock is up over 3%. Astom Project, Yes Bank and Chambal Fertilisers came out with good set of numbers.
Thermax came out with strong set of numbers, its net profit came at Rs 55.63 crore and Bank Of India came in with inline set of numbers.
The BSE Midcap Index ended at 6,755.20 down 57 points or 0.84%.
The BSE Smallcap Index ended at 8,056.36 down 97 points or 1.2%.
The BSE Bankex was down 0.8% at 8,284.36. Andhra Bank, Canara Bank, IOB, Allahabad Bank, Bank of Baroda, PNB moved downwards.

Markets Today

The markets ended flat after seeing a solid start as profit booking was seen during the final hour of trade. Selling pressure was seen in IT, banking, FMCG and oil & gas stocks. However, capital goods, telecom, metal and realty stocks witnessed buying interest.
But on a weekly basis Sensex saw a good close up 1.8% and the BSE Midcap was up 1%.
Tata Steel, L&T and Bharti Airtel were among the top gainers on the indices.
Among the losers were ACC, Bajaj Auto, Cipla and HPCL.
The BSE Midcap Index ended at 6,836.07 up 8 points or 0.12%.

Markets Today

The markets couldnot maintain its first half momentum and cracked sharply in later trade on the back of profit booking witnessed across the board and ended quiet in marginal red. Auto, metal, capital goods and banking stocks were among the hardest hit, however oil & gas and IT stocks remained in focus today. Market breadth was negative and the volume also was not impressive.
Sensex was down 21.40 points or 0.14% at 15289.82, and the Nifty down 15.40 points or 0.34% at 4496.75.
About 940 shares have advanced, 1671 shares declined, and 65 shares are unchanged.
The BSE Midcap Index ended at 6,789.57 down 45 points or 0.70%.
The BSE Smallcap Index ended at 8,207.77 down 73 points or 0.88%.
The BSE Capital Goods Index closed at 12,782.07 down 1.8%. Siemens, Triveni Engg, Kirloskar Oil, Praj Industries, ABB, Alstom Projects closed lower.

Markets Today

It was a quiet day for the markets wherein it opened with marginal gains and remained rangebound for major part of the day and shut shop on flat note. It was disappointing day for the IT, pharma, FMCG and capital good stocks but realty, banking, consumer durable and metal space managed to attract decent buying interest today. Market breadth was slightly in favour of advancing stocks.
Sensex was up 38.50 points or 0.25% at 15311.22, and the Nifty up 7.60 points or 0.17% at 4512.15.
About 1453 shares have advanced, 1191 shares declined, and 57 shares are unchanged.
The BSE Midcap Index ended at 6,834.55 up 39 points or 0.6%.

Markets Today

The markets ended the week on an extremely strong note taking cues from strong Asian markets. The turnover was brisk but the smallcap and midcaps underperformed the benchmark indices. The star sector was metals, the BSE Metal index ended up over 4.5%.
Except for pharma and realty all the other BSE indices ended in green.
Hindalco, Tata Steel, Sterlite Ind, Reliance, Zee, BHEL, Larsen, ITC, Tata Motors, HDFC are among the top gainers on indices.
Sensex closed at15272 up 180 points and the Nifty closed up 58 points at 4504.
The BSE Midcap Index ended at 6,795.30 up 13 points or 0.2%.
The BSE Smallcap Index ended flat at 8,216.14.

Markets Today

The markets ended in red on account of weak cues from global markets and downgraded FY08 guidance from Infosys. On the back of weak guidance the entire IT pack was beaten down and was among the top losers. However,
Selective buying was seen in metal, realty, cement and construction space. Even the midcap and smallcap space was buzzing outperforming the benchmark indices.
Post Infosys results the IT stocks took it on the chin and the index is down 2.9%. In its results Infy has said that there will be pressure on the margins due to appreciation in rupee. The rupee is trading at 40.38 today.
Indiabulls Real, Parsvnath, Akruti Nirman, Mahindra Gesco are the gainers in the realty space.
Sensex closed at 14,910 down 99 points, Nifty closed at 4387 down 19 points.
The BSE Midcap Index ended at 6,704.40 up 39 points or 0.60%.
The BSE Smallcap Index ended at 8,074.86 down 65 points or 0.8%.
