Markets Today

It was an extremely disappointing day as Sensex saw its third biggest fall single day absolute fall. Both Sensex and Nifty were down over 4% each. Selling was seen in scrips across sectors.
The fall can be attributed to negative news flow on subprime motgage worries from the US. Asia also ended in deep red down between 3%-4%. Taiwan saw the highest fall and was down 4.3% followed by Seoul Comp, Jakarta Comp, Strait Times and Shanghai Comp.
Europ opened in red, CAC and DAX were down nearly 2% each.
All the BSE sector indices closed in deep red. Realty index was the worst hit down over 6% followed by bank, capital goods, metal and oil & gas downover 4% each.
The broader markets also closed in red, with acut of nearly 4%. All the Sensex stocks closed in the red.
On the F&O side Nifty futures discount widened to 42 points; OI was up 78.9 lakh shares. SAIL was down 5%, added 46.4 lakh shares in open. ITC was down Over 3.3%, added 19.6 lakh shares in open interest and Bharti was down 4.4%, added 17.8 lakh shares in open interest.

Sensex was down 615.22 points or 3.96% at 14935.77, and the Nifty down 183.00 points or 4.04% at 4345.85.
About 691 shares have advanced, 2240 shares declined, and 53 shares are unchanged.
The BSE Midcap Index ended at 6,461.46 down 256 points or 3.8%.

The BSE Smallcap Index ended at 7,775.90 down 294 points or 3.7%.

The BSE Bankex was down 4% at 8,055.14.
Union Bank, Bank of India, Allahabad Bank, PNB, Canara Bank moved downwards.

The BSE Capital Goods Index was down 4.7% at 12,697.41. Bharat Elec, AIA Engineering, Crompton Greave, Bharat Bijlee, Reliance Infra, Alstom Projects, Punj Lloyd closed lower.

The BSE Auto Index closed at 4,771.54 down 3.3%. Escorts, Mah and Mah, Tata Motors, Exide Industrie, Bharat Forge, Cummins, Hind Motors closed higher.

The BSE Metal Index closed at 11,071.28 down 5%. Shree Precoated, Hindalco, Sterlite Ind, JindalStainless, Hind Zinc, JSW Steel closed lower.

The BSE FMCG Index closed at 1,926.21 down 2.4%. Tata Tea, Colgate, United Brewerie, Dabur India, United Spirits closed higher.

BSE Oil and Gas Index closed at 7,772.65 down 4.4%. Petronet LNG, Reliance Natura, Reliance, HPCL, BPCL ended in red.

The BSE IT Index lost 3% at 4,711.32. Patni Computer, Financial Tech, HCL Tech, I-Flex Solution closed lower.

The BSE Realty index was down 6.6% at 7,332.51. HDIL, Indiabulls Real, Parsvnath, Peninsula Land, Unitech, Sobha Developer ended in deep red.

The NSE cash turnover was at Rs 12640.07crore and the NSE F&O turnover was at Rs 55904.92 crore. The BSE cash turnover was Rs 6634.82 crore. Total market wide turnover was at Rs 75179.81 crore.

Markets Today

It was a fantastic close for the market near the highest point of the day after brushing off the 50 bps CRR hike to 7%. The markets dipped immediately after the monetary policy declared but having realised that the CRR hike is more of a liquidity management tool than any interst rate signal to the market. The discount has narrowed to just about 20 points.
Heavies like L&T, HDFC, BHEL and ABB contributed significantly to the rally. L&T was up 7% HDFC was up 6% and BHEL was up 5.6%.
Broader markets also participated giving markets an excellent breadth.
All the BSE sector indices closed in green. Capital goods index was the top gainer followed by metal, FMCG and realty
stocks.
The RBI has increased the CRR by 50 bps to 7% from 6.5%. Reverse Repo cap was removed. Bond yields have moved up. CRR is the amount the
commercial banks need to maintain with the RBI. The amount is based on a fixed percentage computed on each bank's total time and demand liabilities. A CRR of 7% means that the banks need to set aside Rs 7 for every Rs 100 they receive in deposits.
Sensex was up 290.08 points or 1.90% at 15550.99, and the Nifty up 88.80 points or 2.00% at 4528.85.
About 1835 shares have advanced, 1065 shares declined, and 83 shares are unchanged.
The BSE Midcap Index ended at 6,718.08 up 99 points or 1.5%.
The BSE Smallcap Index ended at 8,070.63 up 129 points or 1.6%.
The BSE Health Care Index was up 1% at 3,718.26. Biocon, Orchid Chemical, Lupin, Ranbaxy Labs, Matrix Lab, Nicholas Pirama closed higher.
The BSE Auto Index closed at 4,933.83 up 0.2%. Cummins, Exide Industrie, Escorts, Bajaj Auto surged.
The BSE IT Index gained 0.4% at 4,862.52. Mphasis, HCL Tech, TCS, Patni Computer advanced.
BSE
Oil and Gas Index gained 2% to close at 8,130.50. BPCL, Reliance Natura, Reliance, IOC, Reliance Petro, ONGC closed in green.
The BSE FMCG Index gained 1.4% at 1,973.16. Colgate, United Spirits, United Brewerie, ITC, Britannia were among the gainers.
The BSE Metal Index gained 2.2% to close at 11,630.92. Sterlite Ind, Hind Zinc, Jindal Steel, Shree Precoated, SAIL closed in green.
The BSE Bankex was up 1.2% at 8,148.68. HDFC Bank, SBI, Kotak Mahindra, Bank of Baroda, PNB ended higher.

Intraday Calls for 31st July

Nifty Support 4420, 4360 and Resistance 4500, 4560.
Sensex Support 15200 and Resistance 15380, 15500.

Market opens with a gap up about 100 points & will remain positive whole day if RBI's Credit policy SLR unchanged or cut in SLR then market will boost.

Buy GDL, Unitech, HCC, Cropton Greaves, HCC, RIL, RNRL, REL, JP Hydro, Bombay Dyeing, Sun Flag Iron, Hindalco, United Spirits.

Keep Eyes on Banking Sector: SBI, Corporation Bank, PNB, Syndicate Bank & UCO Bank.

Markets Today

The markets ended the day on a flat note amid volatality after seeing a rally of over 200 points in the noon trade. Turnover was low and the breadth was in the favour of declines. Banking and FMCG stock ended higher. However, realty, metal and IT stocks ended in green.
Top gainers on the Sensex were HUL, SBI and Ambuja Cements.
Top losers on the Sensex were Hindalco, ITC and Mah and Mah.
Reliance Energy surged after winning the bid for Sasan Ultra Mega Power Project.
The rupee was
trading at 40.51, the dollar has not been able to maintain its strength.
SBI gained after delivering strong Q1 operational performance on Saturday and HUL was up on the buyback news.
Sensex was up 26.34 points or 0.17% at 15260.91, and the Nifty down 5.15 points or 0.12% at 4440.05.
About 1488 shares have advanced, 1415 shares declined, and 78 shares are unchanged.
The BSE Midcap Index ended at 6,618.99 up 21 points or 0.3%.
The BSE Smallcap Index ended at 7,941.75 up 15 points or 0.2%.
The BSE Bankex was up 1.7% at 8,055.14. Federal Bank, SBI, UTI Bank, Andhra Bank, IOB moved upwards.
The BSE Capital Goods Index was down 0.4% at 12,698.97. Suzlon Energy, Crompton Greave, Siemens, Praj Industries, Kalpataru Power, BHEL closed lower.
The BSE Health Care Index was down 0.24% at 3,682.47. Sterling Bio, Orchid Chemical, Pfizer, Nicholas Pirama, Cadila Health closed lower.
The BSE Auto Index closed at 4,943.50 down 0.4%. Apollo Tyres, Mah and Mah, Escorts, Tube
Investment, Cummins closed higher.
The BSE Metal Index closed at 11,381.27 down 1%. NALCO, Hindalco, Mah Seamless, JindalStainless, SAIL closed lower.
The BSE FMCG Index closed at 1,945.26 up 1%. HUL, United Brewerie, United Spirits, Colgate, Nestle closed higher.
BSE Oil and Gas Index closed at 7,980.75 down 0.4%. IOC, BPCL, Reliance, Petronet LNG ended in red.
The BSE IT Index lost 0.6% at 4,876.34. Patni Computer, Financial Tech, HCL Tech, Tech Mahindra closed lower.
The NSE cash turnover was at Rs 11224.89 crore and the NSE F&O turnover was at Rs 44285.38 crore. The BSE cash turnover was Rs 5040.84 crore. Total market wide turnover was at Rs 60551.11 crore.
