Markets Today

It was a quiet day for the markets wherein it opened with marginal gains and remained rangebound for major part of the day and shut shop on flat note. It was disappointing day for the IT, pharma, FMCG and capital good stocks but realty, banking, consumer durable and metal space managed to attract decent buying interest today. Market breadth was slightly in favour of advancing stocks.
Sensex was up 38.50 points or 0.25% at 15311.22, and the Nifty up 7.60 points or 0.17% at 4512.15.
About 1453 shares have advanced, 1191 shares declined, and 57 shares are unchanged.
The BSE Midcap Index ended at 6,834.55 up 39 points or 0.6%.
The BSE Smallcap Index ended at 8,280.58 up 64 points or 0.80%.
The BSE Bankex was up 1.3% at 8,386.65. Allahabad Bank, Union Bank, Andhra Bank, Bank of Baroda, IOB, Kotak Mahindra moved upwards
The BSE Capital Goods Index was down 0.40% at 13,007.01. BEML, Kalpataru Power, Thermax, Carborundum, BHEL, Praj Industries closed lower.
The BSE Health Care Index was down 0.9% at 3,814.80. Glenmark, Ranbaxy Labs, Novartis India, Sun Pharma , Sterling Bio closed lower.
The BSE Auto Index closed at 5,080.79 up 0.4%. Bajaj Auto, Hind Motors, MRF, Apollo Tyres, Hero Honda, Ashok Leyland closed higher.
The BSE Metal Index closed at 12,090.98 up 0.8%. Shree Precoated, NALCO, Hindalco, Mah Seamless, Jindal Saw higher.
The BSE FMCG Index closed at 1,846.03 down 1%. United Brewerie, ,HUL, GlaxoSmith Con, P and G, Colgate closed higher.
BSE Oil and Gas Index closed at 7,869.77 up 0.6%. Reliance Natura, GAIL, ONGC, Petronet LNG ended in green.
The BSE IT Index lost 1% at 4,848.27. Mphasis, Wipro, Satyam, HCL Tech, Financial Tech closed lower.
The NSE cash turnover was at Rs 11499.51 crore and the NSE F&O turnover was at Rs 38884.18 crore. The BSE cash turnover was Rs 5271.75 crore. Total market wide turnover was at Rs 55655.44 crore.

Markets Today

The markets ended the week on an extremely strong note taking cues from strong Asian markets. The turnover was brisk but the smallcap and midcaps underperformed the benchmark indices. The star sector was metals, the BSE Metal index ended up over 4.5%.
Except for pharma and realty all the other BSE indices ended in green.
Hindalco, Tata Steel, Sterlite Ind, Reliance, Zee, BHEL, Larsen, ITC, Tata Motors, HDFC are among the top gainers on indices.
Sensex closed at15272 up 180 points and the Nifty closed up 58 points at 4504.
The BSE Midcap Index ended at 6,795.30 up 13 points or 0.2%.
The BSE Smallcap Index ended flat at 8,216.14.
The BSE Bankex was up 0.8% at 8,281.75. ICICI Bank, IOB, Centurion BoP, Andhra Bank, PNB moved upwards.
The BSE Capital Goods Index was up 1% at 13,059.18. Alfa Laval, BHEL, Jyoti Structure, Kirloskar Oil, Thermax, Siemens closed higher.
The BSE Auto Index closed at 5,058.45 up 1%. Tata Motors, Mah and Mah, MRF, Punj Tractors, Bharat Forge surged.
The BSE Metal Index closed up 4.60% at 12,000.90. SAIL, Hind Zinc, Sesa Goa, Shree Precoated, Hindalco, JSW Steel, NALCO advanced .
The BSE IT Index gained 0.6% at 4,897.95. Satyam, Tech Mahindra, Infosys, I-Flex Solution, Wipro advanced.
BSE Oil and Gas Index closed at 7,819.67 up 1.8%. Petronet LNG, Reliance, GAIL, BPCL ended in green.
The BSE FMCG Index ended at 1,864.18 up 0.4%. P and G, ITC, Britannia, United Brewerie, GlaxoSmith Con closed higher.
The NSE cash turnover was at Rs 14864 crore and the NSE F&O turnover was at Rs 48879.76 crore. The BSE cash turnover was Rs 6721.02 crore. Total market wide turnover was at Rs 70464.78 crore.

Markets Today

The markets ended in red on account of weak cues from global markets and downgraded FY08 guidance from Infosys. On the back of weak guidance the entire IT pack was beaten down and was among the top losers. However,
Selective buying was seen in metal, realty, cement and construction space. Even the midcap and smallcap space was buzzing outperforming the benchmark indices.
Post Infosys results the IT stocks took it on the chin and the index is down 2.9%. In its results Infy has said that there will be pressure on the margins due to appreciation in rupee. The rupee is trading at 40.38 today.
Indiabulls Real, Parsvnath, Akruti Nirman, Mahindra Gesco are the gainers in the realty space.
Sensex closed at 14,910 down 99 points, Nifty closed at 4387 down 19 points.
The BSE Midcap Index ended at 6,704.40 up 39 points or 0.60%.
The BSE Smallcap Index ended at 8,074.86 down 65 points or 0.8%.
The BSE Capital Goods Index was closed flat at 12,755.97. Carborundum, Punj Lloyd, Greaves Cotton, Gammon India, Areva T&D closed lower.
The BSE Health Care Index was down 0.3% at 3,838.54. Sterling Bio, Matrix Lab, Panacea Biotech, Ranbaxy Labs, Lupin, Sun Pharma closed lower.
The BSE Auto Index closed closed at 4,920.28 down 0.5%. Escorts, MRF, Tata Motors, Bharat Forge, Mah and Mah, Tube Investment ended in the red.
The BSE Metal Index closed at 10,816.64 down 1.5%. Hind Zinc, Tata Steel, JSW Steel, SAIL, JindalStainless, Jindal Steel declined.
The BSE FMCG Index gained 0.3% at 1,854.80.
BSE Oil and Gas Index closed flat at 7,616.99. Reliance Natura, Essar Oil, Petronet LNG, Reliance Petro, ONGC in green.
The BSE IT Index lost 3.3% at 4,791.99. Infosys, TCS, Satyam, Mphasis, Tech Mahindra, Wipro, HCL Tech closed weak
The BSE Bankex was down 0.2% at 7,427.55. PNB, ICICI Bank, SBI, Kotak Mahindra closed lower.
BSE Realty index was up 3%. Indiabulls Real, DLF, Unitech, Sobha Developer, Parsvnath, Peninsula Land were the top gainers
The NSE cash turnover was at Rs 11167.49 crore and the NSE F&O turnover was at Rs 34043.56 crore. The BSE cash turnover was Rs 5475.08 crore. Total market wide turnover was at Rs 50686.13 crore.
